4 MAIN STYLES OF BBQ

While every region or state seemingly has their own take on BBQ, there are 4 original styles.

  • North Carolina -vinegar-based and derived from Caribbean flavors
  • South Carolina -mustard-based sauce derived by German settlers. "Golden style sauce" is tangy with no sweetness
  • Memphis -tomato-based sauce with molasses, sweet and spicy and very thin
  • Kansas City -sweetest of all the original styles - contains a lot of sugar so best to add this after meat has cooked so it doesn't burn
