How They Began

In 1976, Wolfgang Schroeter, a skilled tradesman living in Canada, began Wolf Steel. Wolf Steel got their start by crafting steel railings. Shortly after, in 1978, Wolfgang's father-in-law was looking to purchase a wood burning stove. As Wolfgang's business was slow, he offered to make one. The design and execution of this wood burning stove was a success. With a cast ion frame and glass door, it was the first of its kind. Schroeter's vision and determination grew into a successful business. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, the company continued to distribute wood burning stoves across Canada and the US.
Unfortunately, the stove business was mainly focused throughout the colder months of the year. Subsequently, this led to many yearly layoffs for the company. In an effort to expand business and retain employees all year long, Wolfgang knew they needed to expand their product assortment. This led to the idea of creating their own gas grills.
Wolfgang Schroeter closely studied all other grills on the market and decided to create his own model. He chose to combine all their best features into one. In 1995, the Napoleon Brand was founded with the goal to produce high-end gas grills that stood out in the marketplace. The Napoleon Brand set forth with the idea of creating a gourmet grill brand with a justified price tag.
